My Portrait. Oh, this is going to be good. I would like to think I am pleasing on the eye. Short cropped greying hair, no glasses, no facial hair, highish cheekbones, a small dimple in my chin. As a child I had chicken pox. I had a rather itchy spot to the (my) left of my nose which I would not stop scratching even at the protestations of my mother who said if I did not stop scratching it it would leave a mark. It did, she was right, but the scratching was worth that slight skin blemish! This black and white photograph is a self-portrait taken with a Rolleicord Vb camera. On my travels in Tokyo I found a Honda Gorilla mini-motorbike with a rather well polished petrol tank. In bold capital letters on the tank is the word 'Gorilla'. Given that my given name is Guy, I could not let the chance pass without a suitable portrait. So I placed myself to the left of the word leaning down looking at the tank and took a shot. One of my most favourite images. Check out the Gorilla gorilla gorilla who resided at London Zoo from the late 1940s until the early 1980s and you'll then understand the subtle humour of this portrait.
