Small Face(s)

…it’s all too beautiful…

A black and white photograph of… a few posts into the alt-text work and I’ve realised that it would help if the ratio and orientation of the photograph were provided. So from the top again, this is a black and white 3:2 ratio landscape orientated photograph of, yet again, an air conditioning unit’s outdoor condenser. The unit is placed in the middle vertical of the photograph with its top about halfway up the horizontals. The fittings inside the grille of the unit look like a couple of eyes, a nose and a mouth… well that’s what I see. I’m not sure if that is insensitive phrasing given alt-text is, amongst other things, for the benefit of those with visual impairment. If it is, then apologies for that and please let me know. I’m kind of writing in the void currently but who knows where this journey will lead. I do feel very humble for being able to do what I do. Even so, I do like to be kept on the straight and narrow when I do vere off the beaten track. Anyway, back to the photograph: the unit sits on a metal frame the height and width matching that of the unit. In the space beneath the unit is a plastic cuboid flower pot just a little shy (which is most helpful for the composition of this shot as I only have two main depth planes to negotiate) of the internal width of the frame supporting the unit. The foliage of the plant in the pot are predominantly to the right where they are cascading (I embellish - they’re on a lazy slow journey across the plant pot) towards the ground. The unit is placed tight against the outside of the house it conditions - and condition it does currently as summer has arrived with heat and humidity aplenty. Three months of sticky weather to negotiate. Running vertical from the top of the unit and out of the top of the photograph is the pipe leading to the internal air conditioning unit inside the house. The external view of the house shows the exposed foundations upon which the house sit. This concrete base runs to about a third up from the bottom of the photograph. Grilles in the foundation allowing traditional airflow are visible. Both are about equidistant from the edge of the photo to the relevant edge of the unit. The wall of the house is formed by (red) plastic wood looking strips. In the top left of the photo a little way from the left edge is the bottom half of a square window. In the top right is the bottom left corner of a bigger window. Affixed to the inside of that window is a SECOM badge: this house has security fitted. Excluding the traditional grilles, the positioning of the two windows, unit and plant pot match the face inside the grille of the air conditioning condenser unit. So if you’re seeking my reason for clicking the shutter that was it. Additionally, the small amount of flora trying to beautify an otherwise ‘ugly to some but not me’ house façade and air conditioner was also a pull.
