Not been feeling too good the last few days but now on the mend. So have a recent digital photograph to ponder over:

A black and white photograph of the front of an old Japanese building in Aizu Wakamatsu. Behind the glass doors on the right are the heads of two shovels looking out at you. Pasted on the windows on the left are two identical posters for something I cannot for the life of me work out what, so I’ll have to revisit and update this later. Sorry! Miss me? Kept you waiting too long? This is the day after initially posting this image and luckily the poster was still in situ. Luckily as it was advertising a gourmet food campaign for new year’s baskets - i.e. new year gifts for friends, relatives, colleagues, customers, etc - a traditional end of year activity in lieu of Christmas presents as Christmas is not celebrated (officially) in Japan. Anyway, if you had ordered by 26th December 2024, your gift of 4 items would have cost you four thousand yen. For that, your recipient receives not half a dozen, not a dozen but ten eggs, 240g of minced pork meat, 400g of cow’s milk yoghurt and 485ml of mikan juice. A wonderful gift methinks. In the image in the poster for the eggs is a bowl of steaming rice with some small pickles on top and a freshly cracked raw egg too. Yep, raw eggs be eaten in these parts. However, the residual heat from the rice will cook the egg a tad. The minced pork is advertised by long-thin meat patties covered in a brown sauce. The yoghurt has been decanted into a simple yet elegant looking grey bowl. The mikan juice is captured mid-pour into a long glass. To make things easy, there is a QR code bottom right of the poster to facilitate the purchase and also an image of potentially what the filled basket will look like. I took this picture in early May 2025. Upon returning today (16th May) windows I have previously photographed as closed were open ajar - it has been hot here recently. So the building upon whose windows these advertisement posters appeared is being occupied… this somewhat begs the question as why these posters are still up, right? I’m sure there will be further updates to this story as and when available so be sure to periodically return to this page/photograph. In the meantime, have a great day!
