Oh, I Say!

New balls, please.

This is a screenshot from today’s BBC website:

A screenshot from the BBC website showing the headline, photograph and offending paragraph regarding the Wimbledon first round tennis match of Mr. Djokovic. The headline reads “Djokovic overcomes physical issues to reach second round” beneath which is a photograph of Mr. Djokovic pushing an ice filled towel against each temple. I have then added the sixth paragraph which reads: “Contesting his first Grand Slam match since losing one of the all-time great French Open finals to Carlos Alcaraz last month, world number one Sinner lost just seven games in a dominant a [sic] 6-4 6-3 6-0 win over fellow Italian Luca Nardi.”

For five preceding paragraphs the subject was Mr. Djokovic. Then in the quoted sixth paragraph, that second word ‘his’ does not belong to Mr. Djokovic. Read further to find out which pro owns that pronoun. The rogue ‘a’ adds to the paragraph’s fault count. However, what smashes this paragraph to pieces (proving no second serving of eyes passed over it prior to publication) is exactly which additional Grand Slam event(s) Mr. Sinner could have participated in between the French Open and Wimbledon? The four Grand Slams are held annually in the following order: Melbourne, Paris, Wimbledon and New York. Don’t need no magic eye to spot stating the obvious.
