Broom, Block, Net

Published:

IMGP0292 v2

A black and white photograph of a broom, a block and a net. The broom and block are in an outside corner of a building and are found in the top left third of the frame. The concrete block is wedging the broom into the corner. Taking up much of the bottom right of the frame is a net. This net is used to put rubbish bags under to prevent crows from pecking the rewards inside. The net is not being used for that purpose at the taking of this photograph. In the top right of the frame is a slice of the bottom of a two-pane window. The external cladding of the house is white - so no loss of colour detail there. The net is blue. There is tension between the net, the broom and the block. This tension is heightened by the gap between them - about half the frame size. Also adding to the tension is that the broom and block are sitting on some kind of grille which may be preventing the net from getting any closer. Two further points of note: the broom is upside down so its bristles are pointing upwards and into the wall of the house rather than towards the net; and the 2D nature of photography presents the illusion that the net is billowing upwards whereas between you and me, the net is actually leaning up against the outside wall of the house. Not sure what triggered me to click the shutter, but as always, I’m happy I did.)
